It is believed that the famous Swayambhar Sabha for Devi Sita was organized in this village. Another interesting fact associated with the village is that the Somnath temple has the same Lingam of Lord Shiva, which was previously located in the Somnath Temple of Gujarat. According to common folklore, it is believed that two Maithili Brahmins brought the Lingam right before the Mahmud of Ghazni attacked the Gujarat temple.
