The original medieval cathedral was built in the year 1,130. The cathedral was burnt and damaged several times during the last 700 years. The present Viborg cathedral was built-in modern architecture and restored in 1859. The rebuilding of the church with bricks and granite was debated since it was not giving any impression of the original look of the cathedral. The church was a symbol and represents the religious Danish people.
