Umiam Lake is a beautiful reservoir in the Hills of the Northeastern state, Meghalaya. It is one of the most famous tourist destinations. It is located at a distance of almost 15 Km from Shillong. The Umiam Lake is a part of a dam that was constructed as a Hydro Power Project in the State. It is known by the names Bara Pani or Big Water. Water sports and adventure activities like Kayaking, boating, water cycling is also available here. The scenic beauty of the Umiam lake is enhanced by the majestic Hills and pines surrounding the lake, and that is the reason it is at times compared to Lakes of Scotland. There is an attractive garden named Lum Nehru Park, near its shores that is an addition to the beauty of Umiam lake. Also, there are small islands rising from the water that look exceptionally stunning from the peak of Union Christian College.

Timings of Umiam Lake: Lake can be visited anytime. However, Water sports can be enjoyed from 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM.
