History of Jind-

Dhamtan is a Sanskrit term meaning Dharamsthanor a religious place. The following historical site is believed to be Rishi Valmiki’s ashram and Asvamedha Yagya’s Lord Ram venue.   3. Hansdehar- Hansdehar is such a place that connects everyone who visits here to Rishi Kardan. He was the person who made this place famous as he practiced penance over here for many years. Many visitors tour each year around here to pay their patronage to the beloved rishi. Rishi Kardam’s son Kapilamuni was born in Hansdehar, and he also composed Sankya Shastra here. The derivation of this notable place is as Hansdehar came from the tradition which symbolizes Brahma came over here to attend the marriage ceremony of Kardham Rishi sitting on his goose. Many people believe that the sacred Saraswati river flowed through this place and the Pandavas came here to offer prayers for their forefathers.   4. Narwana- Narwana is the headquarters of the sub-division along with being a tahsil too. It’s well connected via both rail and roadways and is situated 37 kilometres northwest of Jind. As per many historians, the name Narwana comes from the word Nirvana meaning salvation. Every year, tourists folk visit Sufi saint Hazrat Gaibi Sahib who is said to have disappeared miraculously. It has every basic amenity like a PWD rest house, schools, colleges, hospitals, bus stations, and other amenities. The location of Narwana makes it easy for travellers because it’s location is on the Jind-Patiala-Chandigarh road along with it being a railway platform on the Delhi-Ferojpur railway zone.   5. Safidon- The town of Safidon is its headquarters, and its location is on the banks of Hansi branch of western Jamuna canal. Its situated thirty-five kilometres Northeast of Jind. People majorly come here to see the sites of Sarpadevi or better known as Sarpidahi which have reference to the holy books of Mahabharata and Vamana Puran. You can also come here to visualize the snake sacrifice of Janamejaya, who was the son of Parikshit. Later on, Parikshit lost his life in a war against the Nagas of Taxila, but it was avenged by his son Janamejaya. You can take your loved ones along with you to see the famous tirthas of Negasvara Mahadeva, Nagadamni Devi and Nagashetra.   • Via Air- Jind does not have its airport. Therefore, one can come to the nearest airport, 75 km from Jind, to Chandigarh’s international airport.   • Via Road- Jind is situated nearly on the Jalandhar-Firozpur road.
