According to one of the most well – known legends, once Lord Brahma slew Vajranabha, a vicious demon from his weapon, the lotus flower. It was after killing the demon that Lord Brahma wished to perform a Yagna at the land. According to Hindu mythology, a married man cannot perform a yagna without the presence of his wife. However, since Lord Brahma’s consort, Goddess Savitri couldn’t reach the place on time, the God married Goddess Gayatri and performed the yagna with her. When Goddess Savitri reached the place of the yagna and saw Goddess Gayatri sitting beside her husband, she got really enraged and cursed Lord Brahma stating that he will never be worshipped. Goddess Savitri, even cursed all those people who facilitated the wedding ceremony but Goddess Gayatrisomehow lessened the effect of this curse with her powers. Hence, this temple in Pushkar was ultimately reserved for the worship of Lord Brahma.

It is believed that the original Brahma temple was built by the well – known sage Vishwamitra. Some rumours also suggest that during his lifetime, Jagad Guru Adi Shankaracharya also visited this temple and contributed significantly towards its renovation and restoration. The temple is open for visitors for different timings in summer and winter season. In the summer season, it is open from 5 AM till 1.30 PM. Then it remains shut for about 90 minutes, to reopen again for public darshan at 3 PM until 9 PM. However, in the winter months, the temple remains open for visitors from 6 AM till 1.30 PM. It reopens again at 3 PM and remains open till 8.30 PM. Since, the temple is open on all days of the week, you can actually go and visit it anytime. There is no need for you to reserve any specific day for visiting this peaceful temple. On an average, a visitor spends approximately 2 hours to completely explore the wonderful interiors as well as the remarkable exterior of the temple premises.
