Where is Keibul Lamjao National Park Located in Manipur?

Manipur is a state which boasts of natural beauty. It is endowed with a large variety of flora and fauna. One of the main attractions of Manipur is the Loktak Lake, which is famous for its Floating islands, and the only Floating National park in the world, Keibul Lamjao National Park, is an integral part of Manipur. It is located in Bishnupur district of Manipur and is spread across 40 sq. km.

Important Feature of Keibul Lamjao National Park

The main characteristic of the Keibul Lamjao National Park is the floating decomposed plant materials called Phumdis. It is home to endangered species of Deer, famously known as Dancing Deer or Sangai. This deer was reported to be extinct earlier was re-discovered in the Keibul Lamjao National park by an environmentalist. The majority of the park’s area is covered with Phumdis.

The Keibul Lamjao National Park is surrounded by Hills, where most of the vegetation is grown. Both migratory and residential birds are both prominent.

A boat trip through the phumdis and the view of flora and fauna is worth exploring. Day tours are arranged by the Manipur Tourism Department.
