The temple is elegantly built and has a small pond and is well maintained. It is one of the most famous religious sites of Manipur. History of Shree Govindajee Temple

Shree Govindajee temple was built in 1846 under the rule of Maharaja Nara Singh. Over the years, the temple suffered many damages due to natural disasters like earthquakes. However, repair work was done, and the temple was restored.

Rituals at Shree Govindajee Temple

Daily morning and evening prayers are offered in Shree Govindajee temple in a very organized manner. There is a separate queue for men and women, and the temple also has a dress code to be followed. Men can wear a white shirt or any light-colored Kurta with Dhoti, and women should wear the traditional Phanek, Saree, or Salwar Kameez. Live music is a daily practice in the Shree Govindajee temple. There are festivals that are celebrated in the temple with a lot of pomp and show. Janamashtmi (birth of Lord Krishna) and Ras Lila are celebrated with great devotion and enthusiasm.
