Visit Monastery of Filerimos in Rhodes: 15th Century Gothic-Style Monastery (2024)

The Monastery of Filerimos is about 12 km south of the city center of Rhode and 8 km from the Museum of Bee and Honey. The monastery is located on the hill about 3 km from Ialyssos. The Gothic-style monastery was built in the 15th century to worship the Virgin Mary. The church is constructed using stones. The monastery was built by the Knights of Saint John who was controlling the island of Rhodes. The holy icon of the Virgin Mary was kept in the Monastery until the Ottomans took control of Rhodes island in1523. The Knights removed the icon and moved to several European countries. The icon at present is kept at the National Museum of Montenegro. There is a lot to see at the Monastery.
