Most visitors touring Norway drive from Briksdalsbreen Glacier to Runde Island. Later in the evening tourists return to Alesund that is 80 km south and the drive may take 1 ½ hour. The Runde island is known for its different kinds of birds. Island is also known as a bird island.
Tourists visit the island to see the Runde bridge and birds. The bridge is about 1,400 feet long. Less than 200 people permanently live on the island. There are over 500,000 sea birds that visit the island during summer and nesting season. The island is also popular among locals and northern Europeans for diving, fishing, and sea sports. The trip takes ½ day to full day. The drive is about 1 ½ hour from Alesund.
