Ghirardelli Square in San Francisco is about 0.5 mile from Fisherman’s Wharf. The square is considered a National Historic Place. The Ghirardelli Square has 5 star hotel, restaurant, marina and shopping mall. The few original shops have been there for over 100 years. The square was a headquarter for Ghirardelli Chocolate Company and the entire city block was owned by Domenico Ghirardelli since 1893.
The Ghirardelli Chocolate company was established at Ghirardelli Square. In 1962, the family of Willian M Roth brought the property so as to prevent construction of tall buildings. The building in square were restored and modified to host shopping center and restaurants. At present the Ghirardelli Square and Ghirardelli Chocolate factory is owned by Lindt and Sprungli.
Ghirardelli Chocolate Company still sells its chocolates in the square. When in San Francisco, the tourists can pick up a classic bag of Ghirardelli chocolate squares, or relish the popular hot fudge sundaes.
