Kronborg Slot, Helesingor : Important Tourist Destination of Denmark (2024)
The city of Helesingor is located 30 miles (48 km) north of Copenhagen. The Helesingor city is the northernmost province of Zealand Peninsula. Visitors can drive, take a bus or train to this town.
The Kronborg Slot is a castle located about 1.5 miles from the Helesingor city center. The Kronborg Slot castle is included in the UNESCO World Heritage Site, making it an important tourist destination in Denmark. The town was a part of Shakespeare’s play Hamlet. The coastal town of Helesingor was one of the strategic ports over the Baltic sea for commerce and also during the war with neighboring countries in the 12th to 16th centuries.
The Kronborg Slot castle was destroyed by fire in 1629. The castle was rebuilt during the following 10 years. The castle was sieged by the Swedish army in 1658. Kronborg Slot castle was used as a prison from the year 1739 to 1900.
The fee to visit the castle is about $ 10 per person. Tourists like to spend a couple of hours in Helesingor town for coffee or lunch.
